The “Musée Mémoires 39-45” is a childhood dream.

We are two brothers, Aurélien and Clément Coquil, passionate about History, or rather passionate about all the individual experiences of senior Bretons during WW2.
All these stories that make History.
We have been collecting these memories for more than 20 years, from combatants and their families and from civilians caught upin the turmoil. It is these accounts and real-life experiences that could very well come from your parents or grandparents that you will find in the museum, illustrated by objects and photographs.
We are always interested in accounts and mementoes from this period, do not hesitate to contact us!

In short, it’s definitely worth the detour!

If there's one thing the French can do, it's museums! This one is dedicated to the German occupation and what the Allies luckily did with it. We can be forever grateful! The development of the situation between 39 and 45 is presented on a total of 5 floors. Scenes that were certainly the same are shown, accompanied by audio, with these initially being set to music in German. Contemporary witness reports provide additional and very clear explanations without appearing cheesy! Then you go through all the stages of development in this bunker. Captivity, Resistance, Allies. Here too, there are always contemporary witness reports. An air raid can be relived as a simulation, very impressive. There is also a small outdoor area with a US tank, a few anti-aircraft guns and a trench, but it is too styled to appear remotely realistic. This could have been improved somewhat if necessary. Otherwise: worth every cent!!! Thanks. Admission: €8.50, as of August '24. Explanations in French, English and German. Recommendation for families: not suitable for children under 12! They might not fully explain the story behind it and some things might be a bit disturbing.

Wasn’t aware of any war time installations in the area. 🙄 So, as a history nerd, I had to go there and found a pretty decent museum. Well maintained and very explanatory. It’s basically around a former German artillery position. Interesting stuff is shown.

It is really worth it in summer. The outside is really beautiful by seeing the fort and the inside is also really interesting because you can discover how everyone lived underground.

Came in 2017 with my parents, great exhibition and above all I put myself in the place of an average French person who is terrified in a cellar rich in sound and light which recreates the Second World War

This is a wonderful museum and I love the way they have framed the stories - both known facts and stories from those who lived the experience first hand. Took us over 2 hours to read through everything. Worth a visit!

One of the most interesting places in western France. A place where history stopped. Thanks to enthusiasts, this command centre, built by the Germans, has been restored and restored to its original state. It is accessible to everyone.

We found this museum by chance, after googling the name of an English general who liberated a fort located in the Brittany coast. I have never been more thankful for a Google Search. This museum takes you on one of the most accurate, touching, emotional journeys concerning the facts and events of WW2. The museum itself is one of a kind, built in a former German bunker, which has been faithfully renovated to showcase the life of German soldiers and generals in the bunker. On the upper levels you will be taken on a tour through the years of the war, which will be recounted to you through the eyes and experiences of those who lived it - you will literally walk through memories. You will also find plenty of memorabilia and objects from those years, which people have donated to the museum, alongside their testimonies and memories. Thanks to an anti-bomb panic room, you will also be able to somewhat experience what it meant to be subjected to air raids, with visual representations and sounds. Just outside the museum you can take a close look to some equipment, including an original American LCVP employed during D-Day, an American tank and a German Flak. At the end of our visit we had the chance to chat for a bit with one of the founders of the museum, who explained that it took 20 years to gather all the stories to then build what we can now experience. This place is a true monument and homage to the memory of everyone who fought for freedom and for all the lives lost. It is our duty now to remember it and this museum is the right place to start. I highly reccomend the visit.
