Moreau, an officer with the 12th Cuirassiers, gave me a set of fatigues and picked up this red forage cap from the body of one of the unit’s men. He handed it to me and said: « Here, this is your cap; it is our regiment’s distinguishing sign. »

Little Georges’ treasure box
I am seven years old when the war breaks out. In Brest, the French, the British, the Germans, and then the Americans take turns.
Throughout the five years of war, I fill the pretty little wooden box that Mum gave me with badges and keepsakes.
It is my childhood treasure.
